I was just sent this clip by a friend and I find it compelling to list it here.

During a more than a regular downpour of rains, Mumbai reeled in pressure of collapse of its sewage system, where water clogged not only the drainage system but also the whole city. There were many articles written about amazing spirit of Mumbai and how they helped each other out during that time of distress. We also come across sporadic news articles about mishandling of manholes and how many people have lost lives because of those accidents.

Here is a heart warming public service message alerting us about the pathetic state of "civic sense" in India. I hope our citizens get our act together and our duty of keeping our streets clean, literally.

To do justice to the caption "Boost is the secret of my energy!", you have to embed the video of very first kapil paaji's clip. That was back in 1986 that boost came up with little TV gem and it remains etched in hearts of billions forever.

This commercial was so successful that in 1989 boost had their task cut out. All they had to do was rope in the teenage sensation Sachin, capture him saying along with Kapil saying: "Boost is the secret of my energy, OUR Energy"!!

Hero Honda Pleasure: Why should boys have all the fun!

I searched high and dry for the original hero honda ad with slogan "Fill it, Shut it, Forget it", but couldnt find it. If you find that clip, please send it my way to indiatvads@gmail.com.

During these of high petrol prices, it is imperative that all the bike/car makers not only purport this fuel saving messages, but also provide vehicles that save customers from getting a heart stroke (on top of heat stroke in Indian summers).

I think in recent years, Hero Honda is showing all the dare devil stunts done by hunks, but those messages dont hold anyone's attention except the ones who actually want to buy that bike. However, these are the new clips that catch my attention. I think their caption "Why should boys have all the fun" is quite catchy and also a take on Kinetic Honda models. Enjoy this clip.

I wish I found this clip last month for Indian Independence day as it would made it sweetly funny. Quite a creative message extolling merits of Vim bar. Having said that, do you know of anyone who bought this recently? :)

This is a recent ad on Indian television and its quite possible that its still being aired. It is a playful commercial that speaks about capturing those precious moments of your life, or they can be just infamous moments.

Nokia has made inroads into Indian market and its ubiquitous presence in that market has actually improved its corporate balance sheet. This commercial is about getting the word out that Nokia phone is not a robust one, but also comes with a 'you never know when you might need one' camera too.

This next clip uses the ham machine Shahrukh Khan to drill into Indian minds about the reliability and robustness of a Nokia phone :) I'd say what I want, SRK fans be damned... ;-)

Honestly, I hated the taste of complan but now wish I didnt hate it that much. That is until they came out with Mango flavor; yumm!

If a complan ad doesnt give you a nostalgic kick, then at least watch it for none other than Ayesha Takia. Now if you see the grown up version of her, no one is going to deny the nutritious affects of complan :))

There you have it, the super happy Indian family from 1980's. The 'bahu' isnt living with huge family of her husband, but 'only' her in laws. Also, the in-laws are super nice people and they all get along because they dont make their bahu do all the house work.

Bahu is happy because she gets help from her whole family, right from making of 'atta.' Isn't that lovely? Look how well that 'phulka roti' puffed. I think for a brief period of about 2 years, that lead lady of this commercial was there all over the tv. If I remember it correctly, she was also one of the brides 'Mr Yogi' has checked out too. Ahh, how much fun this vague memories are.

The most prominent commercial when you were renting out VHS movies from video parlour back in late 80's or early 90's was of Gold Spot. Gold spot not only used to be a favorite drink in urban populace, but was also a great hit among the rural segments too, but the advertisements never tried to show the germane side of things. Speed bike, roller skates, hot girls in tubes and their clipped accents. That was some wannabe generation (wait, I dont even want to go there, haha).

Mummy, Maltova please

I know this is supposed to be about commercials on TV, but there are a few print ads, that give you the visual feel of watching a 45 second clip itself.

This ad is about maintaining an active lifestyle and how drinking "Maltova" makes it all possible. [I believe people's preferences moved on from Maltova to Kournikova and Sharapova, these days, but ofcourse they are also proponents of definitive active lifestyle ;)]

I especially like the way they would cohabit marketing acumen, with the tailend message of "Be part of the Maltova club, by sending us three wrappers, blah blah" :)

As the name suggests, this is a website for cataloging all Indian television commercials. However, we are not restricting ourselves to video format only. Our goal is to encompass all Indian advertising.

2. What value are you adding with this effort?

Even though we used the word effort, this does not seem like work at all. By providing all the interesting and also the technical details of a certain commercial, our goal is to educate our visitors about those commercials and also stir those nostalgic emotions, if those clips happens to be retromercials.

3. What is the commercial value you are trying to achieve?

We would like to be the go-to guys for companies who want to get a foot hold in Indian markets. Instead of paying millions of rupees for commercial production and then another huge chunk for running on national TV, we want to help them produce meaningful messages and also market the product to local markets.

4. There seem to be so many other websites who are following your format, how do plan on dealing with them?

We dont plan on dealing with anyone. For any company to be successful, a healthy mix of competition is essential. Please come back and check because we are compiling a list of websites who are emulating our model.

5. Can I be a contributor for the website?

Please, yes! We are looking for people who are passionate about advertisements and brand management. We are working on a standard minimum format to follow for making posts, but apart from that you got complete control of language (family friendly, please). Those were the days when Kapil was reigning supreme with his awesome batting prowess (apart from his superior bowling and alert fielding), where he would just walk in soaking the sun by directly looking into it. It was akin to him taking an aim at it as if he wants to direct the ball towards it and he often hit the ball in air - tall and far.

Following the rules of time, Natraj pencils came up with an ad - "Yeh laga sixer". I couldnt get the video of that commercial, but here is a print version of it. Revel in nostalgia.

This commercial was a real trip when it came out.

This old chap spots a beautiful and well dressed woman sitting across his table. She is talking to him with a glint in eye and openly inviting him to join her for dinner. When our chap takes the cue and jumps at the oppurtunity, she looks at him and orders a cup of black coffee - the silverlining is that she is holding a small cellphone in her palm, while she is inviting her man over. :-) Super KLPD moment.

I would probably rate it 8/10 for entertainment value.

Hero Honda - Fill it, Shut it, Forget it

Phrases like that - This ad was the first one which caught my eye and attention. After a breezy ride on the bike, the guy fills the tank, shuts and drives away for miles. The message they passed with this commercial was that the motorbike gives great mileage and also showing the fun and adventurous stuff you can do on it.
