About Akshaya Patra

The Akshaya Patra Foundation is the largest NGO midday meal program in the world. Akshaya Patra is an organization with the vision that no child shall be deprived of education because of hunger. Now feeding over 960,000 underprivileged children in over 5,700 schools in six states in India, Akshaya Patra will reach its million children milestone fairly soon. It costs only $28 to feed a child for the entire year.

Akshaya Patra is a public-private partnership that combines good management, innovative technology and smart engineering to deliver school lunch at a fraction of the cost of similar programs in other parts of the world. For many of the children this is their only complete meal for the day. This gives them an incentive to come to school, stay in school and provides them with the necessary nutrients they need to develop their cognitive abilities to focus on learning.

Through kitchens specially designed by engineers to leverage technology and sourcing its food stocks from local markets, Akshaya Patra is able to reduce costs associated with transportation and food spoilage while supporting the local economy. In a short time, the foundation has grown to become the largest, and certainly most innovative, school lunch program in the world. Akshaya Patra is a great example of what a non-profit organization can achieve-- a cost effective, scalable solution with high quality service delivery.

A funny message against public smoking.

Thodi si sharm karo!

Here is yet another classic clip from aajtak, this time against public smoking.

Pass the word :)

Haath tha, phisal gaya :)

I love aaj-tak, the hindi news channel and their yoeman public awareness messages that they spread on Indian television. It is an applaudable effort on their part. I hope we can all spread this message wide and further and in due process get a chuckle or two. Enjoy!

Pass the word :)

Asli kya hai, Nakli kya hai.

Sarvam Vishnu maya!

As much as I hate TOI, the toilet paper of India, this is a fantastic message from their creative team spreading the power of currency (100 rupees note) along with a take on bribes prevalent in India.

Pass the word :)

Gaanv waalon, hum tumhe dharti se udha denge :)

This gotta be the most sci-fi commercial that came out on Indian television :) The premise is so close to the opening scene of blowing up earth to build an inter-glactical highway from H2G2!

Watch the "binding" power of Fevicol!

Hai saa - and one more.

Pass the word :)

Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai, Kuch BHI! ;-)

Hmm, yeah, ok - its APPLE juice! I believe ya. I am being serious here, why would they want to show a bar setting which helps you to shed inhibitions (and clothes, err...) while drinking apple juice?

Is there any law in India prohibiting from blatantly advertising for alcoholic beverages? I do remember Shotgun Sinha doing his Bag Piper commercials. After watching this Aristocrat ad, I am thoroughly confused.

Watch this super cool ad!

I Love you Rasna (Yet again...)

Ha, isnt it like an year since I posted the first Rasna commercial? Well, its that time of the year again and mangoes arent getting cheaper by day. So boys and girls eat them while you get it or better yet, have some rasna ;-)

PS: Umm Yumm Ankita...

Ek chidiya...

If you belonged to the archiac generatation that I do, you dont need no introduction to this video. It used to be aired on sunday afternoon (apart from other times) before they took those regional movies too seriously. Ah, who can forget the sanskrit news and news for hearing impaired. :))

I am not a traditionalist, so if someone want to remake this video with latest graphics technology, that might give a chance for the little kiddos to have their own patriotic memories.

Ek chidiya, ek ek ek karke anek chidiya.n.

The story of Amul

Hi all:

I dont know the veracity of this clip, but it sure reflects the vision Kurien in transforming Amul as one of the notable success stories from rural India. Watch this clip, which was supposed to be a conversation between Lal Bahadur Shastri and Kurien.

cheers
